Tony Award-Winning Comedy
Fasten your seat belt and get set for a mile-high adventure in Boeing Boeing, a side-splitting comedy written by French playwright Marc Camoletti in the grand tradition of the French bedroom farce.
Presented by local theatre company W!LD RICE and directed by Singaporean actress and comedian Pamela Oei, the Tony Award-winning comedy was first staged in Singapore in October 2002. Due to overwhelming demand, Boeing Boeing was re-staged twice more in Singapore – in 2005 and 2010. All three productions played to sold-out houses.
Since Boeing Boeing’s Parisian premiere in December 1960, the play has been performed all over the world. The English adaptation, translated by Beverley Cross, ran in London’s West End for seven years. It has been listed in the Guinness World Records as the most performed French play throughout the world. The play was also adapted into a Hollywood movie starring Tony Curtis and Jerry Lewis.
Taking centre stage in the fourth staging of the play which has been updated and localised are some of Singapore’s finest, funniest actors, including Rodney Oliveiro, Shane Mardjuki, Oon Shu An and Judee Tan.
Boeing Boeing tells the story of modern-day Casanova Bernard and his three beautiful air stewardesses, each taking her turn as his girlfriend and each happily unaware of the other ladies’ existence. Sounds impossible? With careful, down-to-the-minute scheming, Bernard has managed to keep his hectic love life cruising at the perfect altitude.
But turbulence ensues when his friend Robert comes to stay. Suddenly, Bernard’s schedule falls apart, as typhoons, volcanic ash and speedier planes wreak havoc on his precision planning.
Board the plane to find out how long Bernard can keep it up and if he can ride out the storm.
